Direct Lithium Extraction

Aquatech's Li-Pro Lithium Selective Sorption (LSS) Technology

Aquatech is revolutionizing lithium processing through Li-Pro™ LSS. An adsorbent-based DLE technology, Li-Pro™ LSS brings together upstream and downstream processing to form the world’s only commercial end-to-end solution for lithium extraction, refining, and purification: PEARL. Li-Pro™ LSS technology is already being deployed for groundbreaking projects worldwide.

Li-Pro Lithium Selective Sorption (LSS)

Specializing in 5 KTPA LCE modules, we offer modularization services to sites, enabling 30-50% faster installationtimes, 15-30% lower total installed cost savings, and up to 80% fewer quality/commissioning errors.

Aquatech has assumed the first commercial license in the US, enabling the production of 22.5 tpa of Lithium Carbonate at the Smackover, Arkansas site. commercial demonstration unit was installed in 2023. This achieved up to a 95.9% lithium recovery rate, on average, from the incoming brine flow and rejected 99% of key contaminants (sodium, calcium, magnesium, boron, and potassium). The unit has remained operational since then.

South West Arkansas Project

Covering 30,000 acres of brine leases in the Smackover Formation, the South West Arkansas (SWA) project is the largest demonstration of Lithium Selective Sorption (LSS) in North America.

Backed by a definitive feasibility study, completed in September 2025, the site aims to produce 22,500 tpa of lithium carbonate by 2028, with significant scope for further expansion. SWA targets a Final Investment Decision by end-2025 and is supported by a $225 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Aquatech Acquires Koch's Direct Lithium Extraction Business

As part of the acquisition, all ongoing lithium extraction projects utilizing Li-Pro technology and associated licenses, agreements and performance guarantees will be transferred to Aquatech. This includes KTS’ role in the Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with Standard Lithium Ltd. in the Smackover Formation, where they have completed over 12,000 operational cycles using Li-Pro technology at their demonstration plant and achieved an average lithium recovery of over 95%.

“Bringing Li-Pro into the PEARL technology platform solves this pressing industry need by offering the only proven full flowsheet solution that encompasses both upstream and downstream lithium processing technology,” commented Venkee Sharma, Executive Chairman at Aquatech.
