The chlor-alkali and soda ash industries heavily rely on external salt and water to prepare brine, largely due to inefficient on-site brine management. This dependency increases operational costs and creates additional transportation and logistics challenges, along with complexities regarding hardness removal. To address this critical need, RecovOAR™, developed by Aquatech and FTS H2O, offers an advanced, low-energy brine concentration solution based on osmotically assisted reverse osmosis (OARO), enabling efficient resource recovery and water reuse.

Unlike conventional RO systems, RecovOAR™ is specifically designed to maximize water reuse, significantly reduce brine volumes, produces on-site high purity NaCl brine, and support zero liquid discharge/minimum liquid discharge goals. The process achieves brine concentration levels of up to 250 g/L TDS, while consistently producing high-quality permeate water.

Learn how RecovOAR helped one of the largest seawater desalination hubs at Saudi Arabia’s Al-Jubail to produce sodium chloride locally from concentrated seawater. The facility produces over 1.4 million m³/day of potable water, along with a massive volume of high-salinity brine. Traditionally discharged back into the sea, this brine represents a lost opportunity for resource recovery. With the implementation of RecovOAR, the plant consistently delivered a recovery rate of 75-78%, producing 0.5 m³/h of high-purity brine and achieving a 5.7-fold reduction in volume, with an energy consumption of 4.5 kWh/m³ of processed brine. Reduced OPEX and CAPEX significantly.
