Future of Sustainable Desalination: Aquatech Showcases Next-Generation Water Innovation in Singapore

As global water demand continues to rise, the need for sustainable desalination and advanced water treatment technologies has never been greater. To foster collaboration and accelerate innovation, Aquatech, in partnership with Separation Technologies Applied Research and Translation (START) Centre and Singapore Membrane Consortium (SG MEM), recently hosted an exclusive industry event in Singapore titled "The Future of Sustainable Desalination."

The session brought together leading professionals from across the water sector, including researchers, engineers, technology providers, and industry decision-makers, to explore how innovation is shaping the future of seawater desalination, water reuse, and sustainable water management.

The event was led by Ravi Chidambaram, President and  CTO of Aquatech, who shared insights from more than 40 years of global experience in desalination, membrane technology, and water reuse. His presentation highlighted several breakthrough technologies that are redefining modern desalination, including advanced pretreatment systems, ultra-low-energy seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO), next-generation biofouling control, resource recovery and brine valorisation, and AI-driven process optimization for intelligent plant operation.

These innovations are helping water utilities and industrial users improve operational efficiency, reduce energy consumption, extend membrane life, recover valuable resources, and lower the environmental footprint of desalination plants. As water security challenges intensify across the globe, integrating digital technologies with sustainable engineering will be essential for delivering resilient, cost-effective water infrastructure.

The discussions throughout the session also highlighted Singapore's leadership in water innovation and its strong ecosystem for collaboration between technology companies, research institutions, regulators, and project developers. The enthusiastic participation and exchange of ideas demonstrated a shared commitment to advancing next-generation desalination solutions that support long-term water sustainability.

Aquatech extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who attended and contributed to the engaging discussions. We also thank our valued partners, START and SG MEM, for their support in making the event a success.

Aquatech remains committed to driving innovation in desalination, water reuse, and resource recovery through collaborative research, pilot projects, and cutting-edge technologies. We look forward to continuing conversations with industry partners and customers as we work together to build a more water-secure and sustainable future.
