Municipal Wastewater Treatment for Recycle/Reuse
Fresh water is a scarce commodity; this fact is well acknowledged by one and all. People at all levels be it general public, governmental bodies, and industries understand the implications of good quality water availability in terms of quantity, cost and wastage. As a consequence, there is an emerging consensus on wastewater recycle/reuse. Municipal wastewater is an obvious choice to treat and recycle due to its availability. Developed countries already have publicly owned treatment works (POTWs) to treat municipal wastewater while developing countries like India and China are installing such treatment facilities.
Aquatech has successfully implemented several projects offering integrated treatment solutions for recycle of municipal sewage for various industrial applications e.g. cooling tower make-up, process water, boiler feed water etc. A typical process would include ASP, SBR, MBBR, HEROTM etc. In certain situations, it may be advantageous to replace secondary biological treatment and tertiary filtration system with Aquatech’s Enhanced Membrane Bioreactor (Aqua EMBR) system.
An integrated treatment system for municipal wastewater recycle comprises screening, primary clarification (optional), secondary biological treatment e.g. Activated Sludge Process (ASP), Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR), Moving Bed Bioreactor (MBBR) etc. followed by tertiary treatment e.g. lime-soda ash softening, media filtration, membrane filtration and finally reverse osmosis or High Efficiency reverse Osmosis (HEROTM) and/or ion-exchange polishing depending on the final usage of recovered water.
